Elagabalus is my new hero.
“Elagabalus was married as many as five times, lavished favours on courtiers popularly thought to have been his homosexual lovers, employed a prototype of whoopee cushions at dinner parties, and was reported to have prostituted himself in the imperial palace.”
I went to a great lecture at UVic years ago that you would have loved. The lecturer’s PhD dissertation examined 1960/70′s homo-erotic fiction for depictions of the late Roman Empire. A number of his examples centered around the court of Elagabalus.
Amazing. …I would like his bibliography please.
